A Tribute to My Influences

When I was a kid, I spent hours and hours in my room playing my guitar and singing.

I sometimes would also wander out into the woods around our house with my guitar until I found just the right spot, and  sit on the ground serenading the trees.

There was one song I played over and over, at parties, in college, at coffeehouses, in my room, in the woods, at friends' houses; anywhere I could.

Recently, my old friend Ed reminisced about it, so I decided to play it in my studio again and post it for him.

And for YOU.

(BTW: If you'd like to download some free tunes HERE, please do! I'd love to share them with you).

And since we're on the topic of just voice and guitar, this next recording was a recorded at Room With a View Studios, and was the one and only time I have ever sung this song.

The producer set up his microphones and just asked Gordon Rowland (classical guitarist) and me to just start playing and singing.

I pulled out my mobile phone and looked up the lyrics, and while reading them off my phone, we recorded this acoustic version of "House of the Rising Sun".

The tag of this recording happened completely accidentally.  .  . the lyrics had come to their end on the screen of my phone, so we thought the song was over.

We paused.

And then,  I touched the screen and scrolled a little further, and uncovered the last verse. So, I started up singing again, and Gordon responded and started playing, creating this really cool tag.

It was one of those really magical moments in the recording studio that I will never forget.  .  .
